YOC Celebrates Legacy of Hamer and Phyllis Shafer & the Shafer Giving Plaza’s 10th Anniversary

28 Oct YOC Celebrates Legacy of Hamer and Phyllis Shafer & the Shafer Giving Plaza’s 10th Anniversary

The Youth Opportunity Center (YOC) Foundation will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Shafer Giving Plaza and the legacy of the late Hamer and Phyllis Shafer at a luncheon on October 29. Guests of honor will include YOC Founders and Shafer Giving Society Ambassadors. Keynote speaker will be Mrs. Leslie Meese, New Castle, Ind.,  mother of a YOC alumnus. This annual event is held every fall to recognize the YOC’s generous donors.

The Shafer Giving Plaza, dedicated on October 26, 2006, is yet another example of the monumental difference the Shafers made in the Muncie community. It is a lasting reminder of their generosity and honors the caring individuals, families and groups whom they have inspired to contribute to the YOC’s ongoing success as a regional behavioral treatment center for youth.

The late, Phyllis Shafer, founding member of the YOC Board of Directors, was the embodiment of the YOC’s vision to help troubled youth. Phyllis had a heart for kids. In her words, “When I think about the kids placed here, I can’t help but feel that helping them is an important step in securing our community’s future.”

“Her years on the YOC Board and the Shafer’s generous gifts are enduring examples of the commitment to this organization’s potential impact on tomorrow’s youth,” said Polly Craig, YOC Foundation Executive Director.

The Youth Opportunity Center (YOC) is a nationally accredited, not-for-profit behavioral treatment center serving children and youth from throughout Indiana.
