YOC Wellness Program Receives Five Star Award

16 Oct YOC Wellness Program Receives Five Star Award

Five Star Award

Youth Opportunity Center’s wellness program received the Wellness Council of Indiana’s Five Star Award at the 2015 Indiana Health and Wellness Summit held at the J.W. Marriott, Indianapolis (Oct. 7-8). This is the highest level recognition that is given to organizations for achieving successful worksite wellness standards.

“The Five Star award is a wonderful recognition of the Youth Opportunity Center’s ongoing commitment to improve the health and well-being of our employees and residents,” said Polly Craig, YOC Foundation Executive Director. “YOC Wellness helps kids and staff model healthy lifestyle choices today…and for the rest of their lives.”

YOC Wellness Coordinator, Nathan Taylor, MS, ATC, accepted the award on behalf of the YOC at the Summit’s AchieveWELL luncheon.  To receive the Five Star Award, YOC Wellness had to show an expansion in its programming and community involvement.

Get in the Game

Two years ago Taylor added Get in the Game, a rewards and recognition program. GIT Game! is designed to reward participants for daily healthy practices and encourage a sustained lifestyle of well-being. Taylor said, “We come along side people becoming well and reward them for their efforts.”

In terms of community involvement, YOC Wellness continued its participation in Walk Indiana, Walk a Mile in My Shoes, and the gardening and clean-up of the YOC traffic median at the corner of Tillotson and Hoyt.

Since launching seven years ago with a grant from the Ball Brothers Foundation, YOC Wellness has a proven track-record in improving employee and resident health.

AchieveWell

AchieveWELL provides an independent assessment of wellness processes. Groups working toward creating a corporate culture that encourages and supports employee health through worksite wellness programs are eligible for the designation which is divided into three progressive levels: Three Star, Four Star and Five Star.
