On May 21st, the YOC, in partnership with the Ball Brothers Foundation, will be hosting nationally recognized wellness champion, Sharon Covert. Sharon, executive director of the Wellness Council of West Virginia, (WCWV), received a BA in English from Marshall University where she also completed the Masters of Science coursework in Exercise Physiology.
Sharon has worked in the field of wellness since 1992, designing health and wellness plans, employee benefit plans and corporate wellness tools. She speaks regularly on the importance of healthy lifestyle choices and is a regular presenter at the Annual Art & Science of Health Promotion Conference hosted by the American Journal of Health Promotion.
Sharon has been active in several local and state initiatives to improve the quality of life in West Virginia and was recently named one of Generation Next, (WV's 40 Up and coming executives under 40), by The State Journal. Originally from Welch, WV, Sharon lives in Winfield with her husband of 13 years and their two sons.
Sharon will speak to the YOC staff at 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm on May 21st about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. The YOC Wellness Committee will also be meeting with Sharon to discuss the YOC strategic plan for wellness. "We are excited to have a wellness champion of her caleber reviewing our program" stated Nathan Taylor, Wellness Coordinator at the YOC.
