YOC’s Training Coordinator Attains Crisis Intervention Certification

Steve Jeffers, training coordinator at the Youth Opportunity Center, has attained Cornell University’s Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Professional Certified Instructor (PCT) status. This rating gives Jeffers the authority to educate personnel from other residential child care facilities in crisis intervention techniques. “As an instructor, I am responsible for training staff how to prevent crises from occurring, de-escalating and managing confrontations, reducing potential injury those involved and teaching constructive ways to handle stressful situations,” said Jeffers.

Since 2002, Jeffers has trained TCI for the YOC. After two years of study, including workshops, a self-review and a detailed portfolio complete with a video demonstrating a variety of training activities, Jeffers was successfully reviewed by the PCT certification committee.

With this designation, Jeffers has become one of 42 people in the United States and Canada who is qualified to train TCI in agencies outside of their own. In addition,

Jeffers graduated from Ball State University with Bachelor of Arts and also received his classification as a Certified Training Consultant through the university.
