This might include, but is not limited to: abuse or neglect, emotionally disabilities, sexually maladaptive behaviors, substance abuse, conduct disorders and psychiatric symptoms.
The YOC recognizes the value of family involvement and whenever possible, encourages parents/guardians to take an active role in their child's treatment. This may include meeting with the diagnostic team to provide information regarding their child, completing treatment plan input forms to assist in the development of the child's long-term planning, engage in the family team meetings, attending treatment plan meetings, participation in family fun nights, regularly enaging in visitation and phone calls, and participate in the discharge planning process. Family involvement is critical to a child's success.
The Youth Opportunity Center offers a variety of services to help meet the needs of youth and their families within the community. Children are placed at the YOC either by the Department of Child Services, the Probation Department, private referrals or the Department of Education.
