28 Apr The Youth Opportunity Center dedicates a building in honor of Marilyn Scales

Five years after Marilyn Scales retired in 2007 from a 40-year career at the Department of Child Services, the 72-year-old youth and family advocate was approached about a special honor.
Youth Opportunity Center board members wanted to dedicate a building at the campus in honor of Scales, a fellow board member who, along with retired Circuit Court Judge Steven Caldemeyer, was instrumental in the 1992 creation of the YOC. “They wanted to do it and I said, well, let’s just wait,” Scales said. But five years later, the YOC wouldn’t take no or “wait” for an answer.
